SELANGOR menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has revealed the portfolios for the state’s executive council (exco) members.
Speaking to reporters at the foyer of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building in Shah Alam earlier today (Aug 23), Amirudin outlined the extensive array of roles that he and the 10 exco members will be playing for the next five years in the newly-formed Selangor state government.
The two-term Sungai Tua assemblyman will be handling five portfolios, namely Land and Natural Resources Development, Finance and Economy, Modernisation and Digitisation of Government Administration, Strategic Communication, as well as Education and Human Capital Development.
Three assemblymen were re-appointed as exco are Kinrara assemblyman Ng Sze Han, who will head the Investment and Trade, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Development and Mobility; Pandan assemblyman Indah Izham Hashim, who will head the Infrastructure and Agriculture Development and Tanjung Sepat assemblyman Borhan Aman Shah, who will take charge of Housing Development as well as Malay Culture, Customs and Heritage.
There will be seven new faces in the exco line-up namely, former Selangor State Legislative Assembly speaker and Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim, who will head the Local Government and Tourism; Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman Datuk Rizam Ismail, who will head the Rural Development and Unity; and Bandar Utama assemblywoman Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who will oversee the Public Health and Environment.
In addition, Kota Anggerik assemblyman Mohd Najwan Halimi will lead both the Youth, Sports, Entrepreneurship and Disaster Management; Banting assemblyman V. Papparaidu will take charge of Human Resources and Poverty Eradication; Seri Setia assemblyman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah will oversee the Islamic Affairs and Innovation; and Taman Templer assemblywoman Anfaal Saari leads the committee for Women’s Development and Community Welfare.
Meanwhile, Sze Han, Suee Lim, and Papparaidu collectively serve as the co-chairs of the special committee overseeing Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Taoism (LIMAS).
On Monday (Aug 21), Selangor menteri besar and the 10 excos took their oaths of office before Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah.
The new exco line-up also saw more than half of Amirudin’s new state exco list being first-time members, including three on their first term as assemblyperson.
Only three exco members – Sze Han, Izham and Borhan – were retained from Amirudin’s former exco line-up.
In the recent Selangor state elections, the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) unity coalition won 34 seats while Perikatan Nasional (PN) managed to wrest 22 seats.
Meanwhile, Amirudin also expressed his commitment to fulfilling the five proposals put forth by Selangor PH-BN on Aug 11 within the upcoming 100 days starting from today (Aug 23).
The state government’s pledges, as listed in the PH-BN manifesto, include an annual incentive of RM1,000 for 5,000 working mothers; an exemption of assessment fees (cukai pintu) for low-cost housing; book vouchers worth RM200 for 1,000 college students; monthly allowance increment for mosque committee leaders; and an incentive of RM1,000 to farmers in the state. – Aug 23, 2023
