S’gor ruler buys artwork showing Dewan Rakyat filled with “macaques and frogs”

SELANGOR Ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah recently purchased a painting which depicted MPs as monkeys, apes and frogs.

“The painting caught His Highness’ attention and he purchased it immediately. It is now hung up in the Ruler’s private study room.

“One day, His Highness plans to auction off the painting and direct its proceeds to charity,” said the Selangor Royal Office via an Instagram post earlier today.

The work of art is said to be inspired by an English artist Banksy’s painting, depicting the UK Parliament as a house of chimpanzees.

In the painting purchased by the Selangor Ruler, only Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun and his two officers are illustrated as humans.

However, politicians both sides of the aisle are represented as primates such as chimpanzees, orangutans, mandrills, proboscis monkeys, macaques and frogs in the painting. – April 12, 2022.
