THE sheer number of around 160,000 Sabahans working in Selangor now gives a clear image of the state’s progress and prosperity, which has attracted many outsiders, according to an UMNO leader.
Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said it further proves that Selangor, under the leadership of caretaker Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari, is on the right course to continue the state’s progress.
“Approximately 160,000 Sabahans come and work in Selangor, demonstrating that the state is prosperous and capable of providing jobs to outsiders,” Bung Moktar was reported as saying by Harian Metro today (July 31).
Bung Moktar, who is also the Kinabatangan UMNO division chief, led the machinery from Sabah to help out with the candidates’ campaigning for Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) unity coalition.
The Kinabatangan MP further added that the three states under the leadership of Perikatan Nasional (PN), namely Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah, are not as attractive to outsiders as Selangor is.
At the same time, Bung Moktar stressed that the state election in Selangor is a test for the PH-BN coalition under the unity government, which must be defended by ensuring victory, and that in order to accomplish that mission, the PH-BN coalition election machinery must instill the spirit of victory in themselves when campaigning.
“If the election machinery is ineffective, the voters out there will judge us. To win, we have to work on how to win, the intention and steps to win.
“It must be remembered that victory does not come by itself, we have 14 days of campaigning to determine the victory of the PH-BN coalition in Selangor,” he added.
He said the youths should not take the unity government for granted because this was the first time that PKR and UMNO have put aside their differences for the development of the country.
“If we continue to disagree with one another, it will be the people who will suffer the consequences,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Sabah BN chief has also encouraged youths not to be fooled by PN’s rhetoric about the performance of the government.
“If a Muslim politician slanders in order to win, I think that leader is wayward. It’s easy to change the government, but forming a new one is not,” Bung Moktar said at a ceramah in Dusun Tua last night (July 30).
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, had initially asked PH and PN to form a unity government, but PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he turned down the suggestion as PN could not work with the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim-led PH.
This is after no party or coalition was given a clear mandate to govern after last year’s 15th General Election’s (GE15) which had resulted in a hung Parliament for the first time in Malaysian history.
PH and BN, as well as Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), then agreed to form the federal government.
The Lamag assemblyman further stated that youths should put their trust in Anwar to lead the country because his economic policies are “long-term and moderate”.
On Thursday (July 27), Anwar unveiled his Madani economic narrative aimed at positioning the country as an attractive investment destination while promoting economic activities which have high multiplier effects. – July 31, 2023
