“Shame on you!”: Noh Omar roasted by netizens for incompetence as state’s MKN chairman

A video of a Hulu Langat flood survivor revealing that it was foreigners who rescued the flood victims while government agencies were nowhere in sight during the weekend floods has gone viral yesterday (Dec 21), prompting netizens to take to social media to express their anger.

In the video a woman was seen telling Tan Sri Noh Omar, the former chairman of Selangor’s National Security Council (MKN) that no action was taken by the Government despite numerous calls made to the government agencies.

The woman told Noh it was Indonesian citizens who finally came to the rescue.

“Three Indonesian citizens came in a sampan to rescue children who were stranded on a rooftop. They were the ones who helped us. What about the government agencies? What were they doing at that time?

“We were in a critical state on Sunday but no one came to help except JPAM (civil defence department).

“However, JPAM only sent three boats for the entire Hulu Langat area. Three boats were not enough to rescue everyone,” she said.

“Fail as a minister”

On Twitter, netizens were harsh in their criticism of Noh, who is also Selangor UMNO chief, for his incompetency in handling the flood crisis while applauding the woman for speaking her mind in a calm and concise manner despite the severity of the matter at hand.

Meanwhile, user @rimaulah2615 said:

(As a resident of Tanjung Karang in Tan Sri Noh Omar’s constituency I agree wholeheartedly that the minister has failed tremendously in handling the flood crisis. In fact he has even failed as Selangor’s MKN chairman!)

Netizen @amru_mubarak remarked:

(This makcik should be conferred the ‘Tan Sri’ title for the way she’d schooled Noh Omar)

Some netizens further expressed their satisfaction with Noh being told off, with user @sforsuria commenting that she had the video on repeat.

“This is so satisfying! [Noh] could only nod his head. I’m not sure if he understands…in one ear and out the other!” the netizen added.

Another netizen also applauded the woman’s actions: “Well said, makcik! Noh Omar, shame on you.”

Amirudin Shari back as state MKN chairman

In related news, Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced yesterday that he will return to chair the state’s MKN following a meeting that was held by the agency at federal level on Tuesday (Dec 21).

Speaking at a press conference, Amirudin said he was contacted following a special MKN meeting that was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to discuss the management of the post-flood recovery efforts.

“I was contacted by the (federal) MKN to once again chair the Selangor MKN. I will get to work immediately and wish to request all parties, including the opposition, to coordinate the recovery process from now,” he said.

According to Amirudin, he was informed back in November this year that his post was handed to a federal minister.

However, it was later clarified by Syahredzan Johan, political secretary to Lim Kit Siang, that the state MKN chairman since November had been Noh Omar, who is also entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister.

(Although not stated, apparently the chairman of the Selangor MKN since November is Noh Omar. Why did the PM change the convention of the state MKN chairman like this?)

This has prompted netizens to react in disbelief, with netizen @fatcatlim saying:

User @kopimaddu, meanwhile, applauded the decision to kick Noh to the curb.

“It’s good that Noh has been sacked (as Selangor MKN chairman). I don’t see what he had contributed to the people of Selangor. Give the position to someone young and capable of helping others,” the netizen commented. – Dec 22, 2021
