Short-lived relief as new COVID-19 cases start rising again

THE number of new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia continues its volatility as it registers another 33,209 new patients, with 441 of them being imported cases.

This now brings the country’s total to 3,537,438 since the pandemic began.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 26,352 patients have recovered since yesterday (March 4), bringing the number to a total of 3,223,650 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak began.

However, the nation’s hospitalisation rate is still high at 68.1%, with the intensive care units (ICUs) reaching 58.9% capacity.

Currently, 348 people are being treated in ICUs with a majority of them (211) in need of ventilator support.

There is still an extremely worrying number fatalities recorded, standing at 78 deaths with 22 patients brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 32,674.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country now stands at 305,101, with 96% of them (292,696) are being subjected to home quarantine. – March 5, 2022
