Should you clean up the hotel, homestay room after leaving? Netizens debate

Should a person clean up the hotel or their homestay room before leaving? Looking at the hefty bill a visitor has to pay, which includes the cleaning service, many are persuaded not to do so.

However, a video post on X has since gone viral showing a good samaritan making the homestay room squeaky clean as a show of civilised behaviour.

Amirul Deghaman who made the viral post further asked netizens their opinion if this was something people normally do.

Here are the netizen’s take regarding the situation. Hassan Bin Marialis said he only cleans up the garbage while the rest is done by the cleaner as he already paid for the cleaning fee.

Similarly, 𝔻𝕪𝕪𝕪 ⋆。°✩ claimed she would just put the items in their respective places, and if there are any cleaning done, it won’t be like in the hotel shown in the video.

Another netizen said her cleaning work is confined to the kitchen, washing of the plates and making sure the garbage is all in the bin.

“There is no need to tidy up the bed as they should change their bedsheets and towels for every customer who comes in,” she said.

On the other hand, Ahmad Shahimi Senawi said a person can derive pahala of heavenly reward for tidying up a place. “It is about attitude,” he added.

Hilariously, netizen Somebody Weird compared the situation to Mogli, the wild boy depicted in the Disney cartoon.

“If you have no manners like Mogli, who was raised by the wolves, then you can leave it as it is. Nobody will judge you. Not every human has been taught manners. Humans are unique right? They are different. Some are stupid, some lack teaching. It’s alright,” he said.

#StaySafeEveryone# echoed their statements, saying that he will clean up the house when he checks in, including floor sweeping, ensuring the cleanliness of the washroom, mattress and such.

It is heartwarming for us to read through the comment section and be convinced that so many civic-minded Malaysians still exist.

On the other end of the spectrum, we also hear about people stealing the items in the homestay or hotel rooms. Kudos indeed to those who clean up the room before leaving. —Dec 22, 2024
