LIM Siew Kim, daughter of Genting Group’s founder the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong and sister to heir and present chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay has breathed her last yesterday (July 14) aged 73.
Born in 1948, Siew Kim is the third child of Goh Tong and his late wife Puan Sri Lee Kim Hwa @ Lee Ah Sang who has six children – three eldest girls and three younger boys. The Quanzhou, China-born Goh Tong passed away in October 2007 aged 89, while Kim Hua died a decade later in August 2017 at 88.
Apart from Kok Thay, her two other male siblings are Datuk Lim Tee Keong (who passed away a bankrupt in April 2014) and Datuk Lim Chee Wah. Her sisters include Lim Siew Lay and Lim Siew Lian.
Siew Kim was married to the late Dick Chan Teik Huat who is the older brother of the late Chan Guan Seng, a veteran stockbroker and founder of Apex Equity Holdings Bhd in which she held 2.79% stake as of April 8, according to Apex Equity’s annual report.
She was known to have a substantial stake in Apex Equity Holdings Bhd, and was linked to Metroplex Bhd and Aktif Lifestyle Corp Bhd, to name but a few companies.
In its April 3-9, 2017 issue, The Edge Weekly highlighted that the feud within the Lim family which controls the multi-billion ringgit Genting gaming empire had escalated with Siew Kim filing a suit against her brother Kok Thay and Kien Huat Realty Sdn Bhd (the holding company of flagship Genting Bhd).
In the statement of claim, Siew Kim alleged that she was the beneficial owner of 796,250 shares in Genting Bhd, and Kien Huat Realty was holding the shares in trust for her.
Court documents indicated that she sought a declaration that she was entitled to the benefits arising from the shares, including dividends, rights issues and bonus shares. She was also seeking to have the shares transferred to her within 14 days, failing which Kien Huat Realty and Kok Thay shall be liable to pay her RM2.06 bil or such value assessed by the court.
Siew Kim left behind four children, namely Chan Jau Chwen, Chan Tshiao Li, Chan Tshiao Miin and Chan Tshiao Yunn.
Her funeral service will be held at 10am on coming Monday (July 18) at the Xiao En Centre in Jalan Kuari Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. – July 15, 2022
