WITH the award of two 5G licences, Singapore is on track towards achieving nationwide coverage of 5G on a standalone basis by 2025, says Communications and Information Minister S Iswaran.
The republic’s Infocomm Media Development Authority announced Singtel Mobile Singapore Pte Ltd and the Joint-Venture Consortium formed by StarHub Mobile Pte Ltd and M1 Ltd as the winners of its 5G Call for Proposal (CFP) Provisional Award.
Addressing a virtual media doorstop yesterday, Iswaran said the republic is also on track to have 50% coverage in two years’ time, “in other words, by 2022.”
“With this, Singapore will be amongst the early group of nations which are able to offer the full-fledged capabilities and services of 5G,” he said.
Iswaran noted that the award is an important part of the republic’s ongoing efforts to build the infrastructure that makes its future-ready for the digital economy, “even as we build on what we already have today.” – April 30, Bernama.
