NOWADAYS even the dead cannot rest in peace. A recent news piece highlighted that all Islamic cemeteries in the five state legislative assembly areas under the administration of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council in Ampang are full, except for Ukay Perdana.
In response, the representative for Lembah Jaya, Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman, proposed a pilot project for multi-tiered graves to address the issue.

The idea, however, was met with skepticism from the online community.
Netizen Oh Pejal said that it was tough to make it in levels as the burial land is wakaf, that the people who take care of it do not have the record of who was buried there.
He believes that all the records must be in place to accommodate the people who are looking for the deceased.
However, several netizens pointed out that the system has already been proposed a long time ago, that it was inappropriate for Syed Ahmad to claim the idea as his own.
Zulkhairi Ghazali added that it has already been executed successfully in Penang for many decades.
“At Tasik Gelugur, we pluck out the tombstone, dig and push the bones to the side and remove the burial shroud to keep the newly deceased. The old tombstones were placed back and the new ones added,” he said.
Another netizen said that in 2012, an Indonesian student made an app similar to Waze but for graves. To find a grave, people simply placed the name into the app and it will show the route to the grave.
“Can’t we transfer the residents who have been there for more than sixty years,” said aimanfarhan.
His idea was echoed by black who said that in Singapore, the graves are dug after 25 years and the bones placed in a small box.
“These were buried in a smaller plot. The old plot was used for other people. All these are adhered to Islamic teaching and monitored by Majlis Agama Islam Singapura,” he said. —Jan 28, 2025
