Slight decline in new COVID-19 cases on Monday to 17,672

THE number of new COVID-19 cases had a slight optimistic decline from yesterday, standing at 17,672 on Monday, with Selangor raking in 4,316 new infections within the past 24 hours.

Being the only state in the country that has reigned the longest as the highest contributing state to add in new COVID-19 infection numbers, Selangor is also the only state that breaches the 5,000 mark.

The second highest contributing state has less than half of Selangor’s count, which is Sabah with 2,474 cases.

Other states include: Kedah (1,602), Sarawak (1,538), Penang (1,451), Johor (1,367), Kelantan (1,176), Perak (952), Kuala Lumpur (891), Pahang (506), Negri Sembilan (478), Terengganu (470), Melaka (363), Perlis (57), Putrajaya (24) and Labuan (seven).

As for the number of casualties, there were 174 deaths today, bringing the total to 14,342.

As of 12pm today, 19,053 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered and were discharged from treatment (total 1,297,723).

Out of the current 260,700 active COVID-19 cases around the country, 1,040 of the patients are in intensive care units (ICU) and 502 are in need of breathing assistance. – Aug 23, 2021
