“Sng-Zuraida tiff over party presidency resolved, other matters to be discussed after GE15,” says PBM

THE conflict between Larry Sng and Datuk Seri Zuraida Kamaruddin over the Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) presidency has been resolved.

According to PBM’s communications department, the party’s top leadership has agreed that Sng will sign the watikah (appointment letter) for its candidates in the 15th general election (GE15), and that the party’s candidates will be announced “soon”.

“Other issues relating to the administration of the party will be discussed and resolved after GE15,” PBM said in a statement today (Nov 2).

Both Sng and Zuraida have been involved in a back-and-forth over who was the rightful PBM president over the past week.

The party was formed by Sng in November 2021 while Zuraida was appointed “president-designate” when she joined the party in June 2022.

Last week, Sng announced the suspension of 13 Supreme Council members, including Zuraida, party secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad and information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid with immediate effect.

Amid the dispute, Registrar of Societies (POS) director-general Mohd Nawardi Saad confirmed that Sng is still the PBM president, adding that the tussle within the party for the president’s post must be resolved internally.

However, when asked on the matter at a press conference in Ampang on Sunday (Oct 30) she told reporters that she was still president, and said that the dispute over the PBM presidency will be resolved before nominations for the forthcoming GE15. – Nov 2, 2022
