RECENT raids on public eateries have sparked heated debates online. While some support the raids to uphold fasting traditions during Ramadan, others argue for Muslims’ right to eat publicly.
This contentious issue highlights broader questions about cultural norms, religious practices, and government intervention.
A viral video showed a man running away from the authorities during what appeared to be a ‘religious police’ raid on a restaurant.
Reposting the video on the X platform, netizens are arguing whether the authorities should stop such raids or whether a person still has the right to eat in public during the holy month.
An account on X claiming to be a socialist or Marxist posted the following remark with the video, and it caused a stir.
So much for religious tolerance. Let people eat in public if they want to, and yes, even if they are Muslims.
No one should be forced to fast, it’s a personal choice that should be left to the individual. https://t.co/LU6liYn5fq

Nah man, fasting is mandatory to Muslims as such should be enforced if anyone is slacking.
If you kinda like breaking rules, you just can’t understand it TBH.

In response, self-proclaimed socialist netizens disagree with this opinion as they are stating that the religion does not allow people to eat during the day in the month of Ramadan.
But he is no muslim. Maybe dia taktahu it is a rukun. Statement begini terjadi bila dia fikir gunakan suku dri kemampuan fikiran nya

Another user said fasting is mandatory for Muslims as such there should be enforcement if anyone is slacking.
While some users agree with the post, saying such rules should not be imposed on anyone, other users are saying that since it is an Islamic rule, it has to be observed.
They only agree for the non-Muslim part to eat anywhere they like during Ramadan but the Muslim users do not agree that Muslims should be allowed to do so. – March 17, 2024
Only agree for the non-Muslim part to eat anywhere they like during Ramadan but not Muslims. It’s obligatory for us. If you can’t fast, don’t eat in open place.
