Some fascinating biz prospects that loom in the Year of the Water Tiger

Editor’s note: This is a synopsis of Master Raymond Lo’s Year of the Tiger forecast

THE water wood element of 2022 is expected to bring prosperity to both the so-called metal and earth industries.

This is because metal conquers wood, hence the wood element is a symbol of money to the metal industries which includes banking, high-tech, automotive, machinery, engineering and beauty & skincare, to name a few industries.

Earth could be the second best beneficiary as earth conquers water, therefore water means money to the earth industries. Example of earth industries are property, mining, insurance and computer software, to name a few industries.

Relying on wood as productivity, water industries will also benefit from the growth and movement nature of wood. Water industries are those in the communication, transport and shipping sectors.

However, wood industries (textile, paper, media, magazine publication, among others) are expected to face serious competition while fire industries (food & beverage, finance, stock, energy, to name a few) are not expected to make money in the Tiger Year as there is total absence of metal which is their money.

In general, the Yang Water Tiger year – with the yang water on top and wood tiger below – is a symbol of creativity, growth, movement and travelling, hence there could be good recovery for the tourism, hotel and entertainment sectors from the dormant atmosphere of 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stormy environment

However, international tension and social unrest abound as people are in liberal mood with more desire to make changes. Bear in mind that the tiger is not a peaceful animal while wood is often associate with wind.

With the drastic and aggressive character of yang water, there is a tendency of conflict, tension and terrorist attacks. The Chinese calendar is on its 60 years cycle which means, we have the same yang water Tiger year 60 years ago in 1962.

In 1962, there was a Cuban missile crisis which almost triggered a nuclear war between USSR and the US in addition to a border conflict between China and India. Fortunately, both crisis got resolved in November 1962 with Soviet Union removing its missiles from Cuba while China declared ceasefire.

And 180 years ago in 1842 marked an end to the Opium war between Britain and China which resulted in the signing of the Nanking Treaty on Aug 29 that year.

Aside from geopolitical conflicts, stormy weather can be expected as well. Looking back into 1962, there were plenty of weather-related disasters. It was the year Hong Kong encountered severe typhoon Wanda on Sept 1 which killed 130 people.

In February that year, heavy storm flooded Germany’s North seacoast around Hamburg, killing more than 300 people while on Sept 27, there was a flash flood in Barcelona where 440 people perished.

On Oct 12, a big storm hit the US’ Pacific Northwest coast killing 46 people while in December, there was big freeze in the UK with severe cold weather.

Human quality

Like an ocean, a person born on a Yang Water day often appears to be energetic and aggressive with full of drive and passion to achieve their goals. On the outside, they can sometimes behave harsh, impatient and impulsive.

However, with water by nature being a powerful and intelligent element, yang water people often possess strong intelligence, enthusiasm, devotion and leadership ability, hence able to take dedicated actions to meet targets and accomplish their goals.

One can listen to the Beethoven Symphony No. 9 to get a feeling of yang water. Beethoven himself is a strong yang water person and his music very much portrayed powerful energy of yang ocean water.

It is not surprising that we can find many powerful famous musicians born on the day of yang water. Quite a few of my most favourite rock stars – Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page and Joan Jett – are all born on yang water day. – Jan 31, 2022
