Source: GPS, GRS to work as bloc in deciding who to form govt with

GABUNGAN Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) have agreed to work as a bloc when it comes to deciding who to form the government with, said a source.

Speaking to FMT, the source further revealed that GRS has effectively left it to GPS to decide on the bloc’s decision, with the Sabah coalition to follow whatever its Sarawak counterpart decides on.

“(GPS chairman) Abang Johari Openg is the spokesman for the bloc,” the source told the news portal.

It is understood that GRS’ decision to work as a bloc with GPS has ruffled feathers in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor also leads Bersatu’s Sabah chapter. Tan Sri Muhyiddin is the Bersatu president.

On Saturday (Nov 19), Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that GPS will support a coalition with PN, Barisan Nasional (BN) and GRS to form the new federal government.

The Sarawak Premier said that this decision was made in the interest of political stability and the people’s wellbeing, subject to conditions laid out by GPS.

Two days later on Monday (Nov 21) Hajiji announced that GRS was backing Muhyiddin as the country’s 10th prime minister.

GRS won six parliamentary seats in the 15th general election (GE15). – Nov 23, 2022
