THE world needs more guns, machine guns, and fighter jets. That is why there is the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 to showcase all these hardware.
Even the event opening was an explosive statement by itself, with the aerial display by three F/A-18D Hornet aircraft and three Sukhoi SU-30MKM fighter jets, belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
While the spectators were entertained, the residents who lived nearby, however, were not amused by all that sonic boom.
A recent video went viral, showing the damage done to their homes. People could be seen sweeping the broken window glass from their floor while in another instance, the window panes could be seen sticking out from their original position. These were likely dislodged by the passing jets.
Unsurprisingly, the comment section was filled with netizens asking if it was possible to claim compensation, and from whom.
Kuat juga letupan dekat LIMA Langkawi. Banyak juga rumah yang rosak 😢 pic.twitter.com/bnJ8uwcu4Z

According to netizen @rizalbiggie who saw the video, the event venue should be changed. “Langkawi is no longer suitable,” he said while @amrosid4 suggested that they sue the organiser and government.
He said it would be best to check the situation of the villagers before making a plan.
Also, @amiragilbert_ claimed that the people get to claim compensation every time LIMA was organised. He added that they would patrol the housing area to count the damages.
“It has already been stated that the event gives a profit within 20 billion in terms of investment. Just ask for compensation from the event organiser. Don’t be shy,” said @ArishClariemira.
To this statement, perhaps, @wanhelm33 wished that the residents all get a new home with two storeys, which is highly unlikely.
On another note, @atojjj said that once, a cow even died of a heart attack due to the sonic boom.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has since responded, stating that the ministry will not ignore complaints of minor damage to homes allegedly caused by aerial displays. —May 21, 2025
