Splashing RM12k cash payout for staff; sceptical netizens dismiss it as just gimmicky content

A BRIEF video showing a staff member of an anonymous company breaking down in tears when she was given a cash payout of RM12,000 has gone viral.

While it is touching to see how much it meant to the staff, it also underlined that there are organisations out there willing to reward employees for their hard graft.

The employee was praised for her dedication, perseverance as well as 100% attendance record when being handed the cash by the management.

The clip which was uploaded onto X by social media influencer kamaghul deghaman (@kamaghul) also showed fellow colleagues enthusiastically cheering for the rewarded employee, highlighting that such a move by the company had a positive effect on staff morale.

The video has generated over 633.3K views at time of publication. However, many netizens were sceptical of the authenticity of the video, claiming that the content was made for purely social media content.

Nevertheless, the poster as well as a few other commenters reminded the lucky staff to declare her income tax lest she gets an unwanted visit from the taxman. As RM12k is a large amount, it is better to be safe than sorry.

One netizen asked the lucky staff to share her good fortune while another expressed disbelief that the staff was being paid in cash.

While some dismissed this as a click bait content whereby “the money will be returned after the recording is done”.

While another was scathing about uploading “outmoded content” in 2025.

Another surmised that cash payments were to avoid statutory payments, enable money laundering and to facilitate social media content.

This point was also echoed by another netizen who highlighted the money laundering bit. He went on to expose that “cash-rich people are either indulged in money laundering or evading taxes”.

Moreover, he revealed how people who have a minimum RM200,000 savings automatically qualified as “premier customers” with banks giving them numerous privileges from parking facilities and flight points to lower loan rates.

While another described the video as yet another MLM (multi-level marketing) pyramid scheme that was tempting social media followers with its key focus being to hoodwink the Malay market.

However, one commenter urged such sceptics to take a chill pill, pointing out that the staff was possibly being rewarded for her hard work or for achieving high targets.

She further identified the company as a jewelry store that has been doing business for a long time and was thus able to pay high achievers cash incentives.

Another asked what was her occupation till she was able to earn such a big income?

There seems to be some confusion as to whether this was the staff’s fixed monthly wage or was it a bonus for achieving specific targets. If it is wages, shouldn’t the details be P&C (private &confidential), queried one netizen.

A few reckoned that judging from the reaction, it was probably a bonus payment.

Whether it is merely for social media content, the staff’s reaction would suggest that the bonus payment is likely genuine.

And whatever the occupation she may be in, it is proof that hard work will be recognised and rewarded by some employers.

If targets are achieved, why not?

As for the haters and sceptics, everyone is entitled to an opinion but certainly not a RM12k cash payout. – Feb 12, 2025
