SRODA: Creating a platform to highlight local ID talent

THE ShangHai Rekatone Outstanding Design Awards (SRODA) was created as a means to highlight the abundance of interior design talent as well as architects practising their craft domestically.

It aims to create a platform for these property industry professionals to showcase their work and to have their efforts internationally recognised.

HCK Capital Group (HCK) has been invited to be part of this exciting venture by being part of the judging panel.

SRODA will seek to leverage on HCK’s expertise as a property developer and also its reputation for creating modern and user-friendly designs, the latter which can be clearly seen in all of its office, commercial and residential spaces.

Focus Malaysia has also signed a MoU to be the official media partner for this highly-anticipated event.

Here, Datin Cherlin Cheah, CEO of principal organisers – ShangHai Media, explains in greater detail the aims of organising SRODA.

Tell us why there is a need to organise SRODA?

There are many highly talented interior designers and well-known architects plying their trade in Malaysia. There are not many avenues for them to showcase their talent and services, restricting them to just domestic trade.

Being talented is one thing but being recognised with effective branding is a totally different ball game.

Utilising the various platforms under ShangHai Media and Rekatone as well as FocusM, we aim to give Malaysian ID professionals and architects greater exposure, ultimately elevating their profiles internationally. The event will act as a great motivator for them to create even more interesting work to capture a global audience.

What do you hope to achieve with this event?

Exposure, recognition and networking opportunities. In the pipeline will be a Hall of Fame showcasing the best work as well as a dedicated platform highlighting Malaysian talent in this industry.

There will be a post-SRODA roadshow to expose their work to a wider audience and we will also organise networking sessions with property developers and relevant SMEs.

What can these ID professionals and architects expect to benefit from being part of SRODA?

The abundant networking opportunities will be a chief benefit, not just within the property industry but with various other businesses as well.

SRODA winners will get the chance to meet peers from other industry awards with this being a value-added benefit that will lead to more business opportunities.

What are the main judging criteria for participants in SRODA?

There will be 10 criteria which include property technology, functionality, environment, social and governance, as well as sustainable development goals. The judging panel will also include members from other industries, allowing for a holistic view of the selection process. – Sept 4, 2023
