PERLIS Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim should wipe the slate clean and ponder on why he received backlash from party delegates during his speech yesterday.
“Shahidan was booed multiple times by Umno delegates during his speech. He should have prioritised jama’iyy (a decision made by the majority).
“He should have understood the message when he declared Pakatan Harapan and DAP are Umno’s enemies, the delegates shouted back saying ‘Bersatu is also the same’,” Umno supreme council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi said in a Facebook post.
While party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced that Umno will sever ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the next general election, several other leaders from the party opposed the move, including Shahidan.
The former Perlis Menteri Besar even declared that the central Umno leadership could sever ties with the state chapter, if it wishes to do so for his views.
However, Shahidan backtracked on the statement after receiving brickbats from various Umno divisions, including from his own state.
Recently, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, a Bersatu leader, appointed Shahidan as the new chairman for Prima Corporation Malaysia.
On that note, Puad urged Shahidan to stand in solidarity with Umno and respect the party leadership’s decision to cut ties with Bersatu, instead of trying to undermine it.
“Shahidan was also jeered when he called for Umno to review its decision to sever ties to ‘renegotiate ties’.
“I urge him to understand that the decision has already been made. No more Bersatu for us,” stressed the former deputy minister. – March 29, 2021
