State polls: “Be careful who you vote for,” Ku Nan tells voters

DATUK Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has issued a timely warning to the public, particularly voters who will be exercising their voting rights ahead of the upcoming state polls, to take precaution when voting for their local representatives in the forthcoming state elections.

According to the former Putrajaya MP, this is crucial as picking the wrong type of representatives would have a significant impact on the local community in which they are accountable for for the next five years.

“Take Putrajaya as the best example because prior to the 15th General Election (GE15), we heard all kinds of stories including ‘New Era Putrajaya’, but what new era is there? I don’t know. Because until today, I have not seen any new era,” the UMNO treasurer-general was quoted as saying by UMNO-Online.

“But we know that countless excuses are given. When someone wants to meet MP of Putrajaya, the excuse from his officer is ‘go to the UMNO Community Service Center in Precinct 15…that’s what is happening now,” he said.

Tengku Adnan, more popularly known as Ku Nan, also reminded the elected representatives of their responsibility to the people, emphasising that it should be at the top of their priority list.

“As elected representatives, they must realise that they are the people’s servants and not the other way around. That is most important.

“When you have the intention to be an elected representative, then do your best instead of dishing out all sorts of excuses like ‘we are not the government’, ‘not a minister’ so we cannot deliver our promises,” he stressed.

“As an elder in this area (Putrajaya), a former ‘ketua kampung’ (village chief) who has been in Putrajaya for more than 20 years, I know my brothers and sisters in this area.

“As a result, I do not want what is happening to the people of Putrajaya, who are like chickens without a mother, with nowhere to complain,” he added.

At the same time, Tengku Adnan thanked UMNO members for their continued support of the party’s struggle.

“Thank you because the members are still with UMNO to ensure the continuation of the ongoing struggle for the future of the religion, the nation and the country.

“I hope that even though this time we have lost as members of Parliament in this area, God willing, as the head of UMNO Division of Putrajaya, we will continue to serve to ensure that all the needs of the residents in this area continue to be implemented,” he added.

Tengku Adnan had been a Putrajaya MP for 18 years, successfully defending his seat for four terms before losing it to Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Datuk Radzi Jidin in GE15 last year. – July 3, 2023
