NON-MUSLIMS should refrain from getting involved in the trending ‘Afganu’ swimsuit burqa controversy which pitted pro-Madani keyboard warriors against their opposition-slant counterparts on religious grounds to avoid getting on the wrong side of the law.
In so doing, they should best mind their own business by not re-posting image of the black burqa-clad female diver with distasteful/demeaning captions.
This comes about after a deemed ‘Type C’ social media user jumped onto the bandwagon to re-post the AI (artificial intelligence)-generated image with a caption “Swimsuit That Will represent Malaysia” alongside a kicker “Terengganu Women Divers’ New Attire”.
This led to renowned Perikatan Nasional (PN)/PAS backer 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐤 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 🇲🇾✨✨(@RichardPower_) hitting out with a remark that the “yellow tweet” (slang for the Chinese) was quick to respond” yet the authorities turn a blind eye to the scourge of Islam”.

Thankfully, many commenters of Encik Richard’s post lambasted him instead for not being able to comprehend the context that “people are teasing Terengganu” as opposed to insulting Islam.
Beyond that, the Terengganu PAS Youth has also lodged a police report against the AI (artificial intelligence)-generated social media post yesterday (Aug 29) for having allegedly sparked a bad perception of Muslim women.
The movement’s information head Muhammad Irsyad Syafiq Burhanuddin justified that the police report was made following what he described as “outrageous action” that has violated the 3R (religion, race and royalty) principles.
Accordingly, Irsyad demanded appropriate justice from the authorities, including the Home Ministry.
“I therefore demand that all those with authority and obligation to please investigate this matter and bring the culprits to justice immediately,” he asserted.
For the unanimated, the polemic had originated from a social media post by surfer ‘Ryan Azzaro’ with the caption “Welcome to Afganu (presumably acronym for “Afghanistan-Terengganu”).
The post is believed to refer to the controversy surrounding the participation of two female Muslim divers – Uzlifatil Jannah Ashraf dan Ilyssa Ixora Imran – who represented Terengganu at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak recently. – Aug 30, 2024
