“Stop fantasising about toppling govt, be responsible Opposition instead,” PN told

THE Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition must put the brakes on their dreams of overthrowing the unity government and should instead focus on its role to provide a constructive check and balance.

PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung said from his observation, PN has been more focused on its dreams of becoming the government than introducing policies and offering constructive criticism that can contribute to the country’s nation-building.

Lee said this in response to PAS chief Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s remarks on toppling the government.

“It’s not wrong for them to want to be the government of the day, in fact it’s the ambition of every opposition member but if you think about this day in and day out without carrying out your existing responsibilities, the people will be disappointed,” the Petaling Jaya MP told Utusan Malaysia.

“It will also disappoint the government’s hopes of building an institution that can provide a healthier and more constructive check and balance.”

On Monday (March 6), Hadi defended the opposition coalition’s right to continue its plan to overthrow the unity government, saying they have the right to plan and no one can stop them from making plans.

Despite criticism of his earlier remarks, the Marang MP said his claim was “merely political” and “normal” in politics.

Hadi further noted that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree did not have the “power” to prevent change from happening in a democratic country, saying, “We still uphold democracy based on our constitutional monarchy.”

Yesterday (March 7) PKR Youth chief Adam Adli also said political leaders, especially MPs, should use their time to debate policies and provide check and balance instead of politicking.

According to the deputy Youth and Sports Minister, it has been three months since the formation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s government with policies crafted and the Budget 2023 tabled.

As such, the government should be given the space to implement policies and fulfil its responsibilities as a government and to the people who gave the mandate and in line with the Agong’s decree.

“Now is not the time for people like Hadi to discuss politics, including toppling a government which has yet to be given the chance to implement the policies it crafted,” he added.

“Stop talking according to political appetite without caring about the interest of the people who only want policies to be implemented.

“Come to the Dewan Rakyat, debate the Budget, economic planning and government’s measures instead of talking about issues that do not protect the interests of people.” – March 8, 2023
