A PKR leader has told Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to stop squabbling over who is responsible for the government’s shortcomings as both are “icons of failure”.
PKR deputy information chief Chua Wei Kiat noted that both had failed in their respective duties of managing the country.
“After Sheraton Move which saw Muhyiddin becoming prime minister through ‘backdoor’ means, he failed to contain the COVID-19 situation and declared an emergency to stay in power,” he remarked.
Calling PN’s brief time as ruling government the “darkest days of democracy” in Malaysian history, Chua said in the end the Muhyiddin administration was toppled by Barisan Nasional (BN) and PN’s squabbling.
“Meanwhile, the Government under BN is crippled as Ismail Sabri is unable to control the fall of the ringgit, resolve UMNO’s internal issues and [see an end] to the littoral combat ship (LCS) scandal,” he added.
The Rawang assemblyperson was responding to the exchanges between Ismail Sabri and his predecessor Muhyiddin pertaining to the 15th general election.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin said if Ismail Sabri continue to fail in overseeing the country and its economy well it is best for elections to be held to make way for a more effective government.
The Bersatu president cited the depreciating ringgit, rising inflation, and post-pandemic economic woes as reasons.
Ismail Sabri “returned friendly fires” by saying that if his government fails to manage the economy, the fault would also lie on Muhyiddin as the chairperson of the National Recovery Council (MPN), and on ministers from Bersatu who also form the Cabinet.
Elaborating on the ongoing squabbling, Chua said both parties should stop sniping at each other as the rakyat has witnessed the failure of both the PN and BN administrations.
“There is no need for Muhyiddin and Ismail Sabri to point fingers at each other and debate on who is the bigger failure as both have proven to the rakyat that both administrations are utter failures,” he said sarcastically.
“[Rather than squabbling] I suggest both ‘icons of failure’ just retire and use the time to rest at home and play with their grandchildren.” – Sept 20, 2022
