“Stop treating the Malays like kids”: Netizen berate Wan Fayhsal for his bizarre comments

EARLIER today, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal claimed that Pakatan Harapan was rejected by the masses for its “full-blown” liberal democratic nature.

He then raised eyebrows by saying that the Malays are not ready to embrace liberal ideas as they still subscribe to “neo-feudal mentality”.

“The Malays need a protector. They have a neo-feudal mentality and are not ready to embrace a full-blown liberal democracy yet.

“At the end of the day, the societal nature of embracing a tribal mentality will persist,” the National Unity deputy minister was reported as saying by The Vibes

However, his apparent depiction of his own community did not go down well with netizens, who took to social media to hurl brickbats at him.

Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming said:

Echoing Nga’s sentiments, user Shafiqah Othman added:

Netizen Rafie retorted:

It is to note that Bersatu was part of Pakatan before its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin pulled the party out from the coalition in February 2020, via the Sheraton Move.

With the help of 10 PKR MP who defected the party, Muhyiddin established Perikatan Nasional to administer the country following Pakatan’s ouster.

He later kicked out all those who were opposed to him from Bersatu, including founder Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to cement his grip on the party

Last week, Muhyiddin was reported to be having talks again with Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air chairman Mahathir to form a pact to take on Barisan Nasional.

However, it seemed that all the leaders had dismissed his overtures owning to his role in the Sheraton Move, with Mahathir calling Muhyiddin a “backstabber”.

Malay leaders a bane to the community

Touching on Wan Fayhsal’s statement, former minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim said the Malays are in their current predicament as their leaders have no idea on how to uplift the community.

Netizen Alister reminded the deputy minister to tread carefully on the matter, reminding the latter that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is given the constitutional power to protect the bumiputera community.

“Liberal Pakatan can’t give Malays protection they want: @wanfayhsal. What protection they want? Isn’t that the role of our King? What are you trying to say?” he queried. – April 5, 2022
