Stop viewing the Taliban based on DAP’s narrative, PAS tells Salahuddin

THE TALIBAN have the right to determine the direction of Afghanistan’s future under the principles of “self-determination” as they are also citizens of the country, said Kelantan PAS deputy youth chief Abdul Malik Abd Karim.

“I think Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub should stop looking at the Taliban based on DAP’s narrative.

“People must understand the Taliban now is not the same as it was in the past,” he said, via Harakah Daily

On Feb 4, Special Envoy to the Middle East Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang met representatives from the Afghanistan’s Taliban Government in Doha, Qatar.

It was said that the PAS president had promised to provide humanitarian aid to the country, which is now struggling with famine and economic collapse soon after the US forces withdrew last year.

It is to note that Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah had said that Malaysia was not in hurry to recognise Taliban’s legitimacy and was awaiting the UN’s move last year.

Subsequently, Salahuddin accused Hadi of “jumping the gun” in announcing support for Afghanistan’s Taliban government.

“Foreign policy is set by Wisma Putra and the foreign minister. Hadi has jumped the gun exceeding his capacity.

“Hadi seems to have exceeded his capacity in making such announcement and commitment,” Malaysiakini reported the former minister as saying.

On that note, Malik said it was the responsibility of Muslims to help fellow Muslims in needed, instead of playing up false narratives peddled by enemies for the sake of political expediency.

He added that the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan must be addressed despite differences in terms of the nation’s internal politics.

“And Malaysia is not the only country attending to Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the European Union, the US and China are also look into it,” Malik concluded. – Feb 15, 2022.
