AS the country ramps up the National COVID-19 Immunisation programme (NCIP), Sunway Group has committed Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre as the first private large-scale vaccination centre for the Petaling district.
Following the National Immunisation Plan, the 80,000 sq ft sq ft convention centre which opened its doors on March 10 will be carrying out vaccinations for at least 1.8 million people over the next 11 months starting with healthcare workers in the Government and private facilities as well as essential services from February to April this year.
This will be followed by remaining healthcare workers, essential workers and enforcers as well as senior citizens and high-risk groups from April to August this year. Vaccinations for the community at large will be carried out from August 2021 to February 2022.
As of March 12, some 1,400 frontline workers have been vaccinated by the Petaling Health District Office with strict adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOPs), in small groups, with adequate social distancing.
Meanwhile, free parking is provided for those coming to get vaccinated.
“Sunway Group’s commitment to nation building by offering the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre as a vaccination centre is instrumental to helping our nation achieve the goal of 80% herd immunity in Malaysia,” the Petaling District Disaster Management Committee said in a statement.
“Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre has the ideal size, strategic location, and infrastructure support we need to ensure the smooth roll-out of the vaccinations.”
Since the start of the pandemic last year, Sunway Group has committed more than RM50 mil that includes more than RM12 mil to support Government healthcare institutions and professionals and RM20 mil to provide retailers rent-free days during the movement control order (MCO 1.0) period, and support for the current national immunisation programme.
“Sunway is committed to nation building by offering our convention centre in support of the 80% herd immunity in Malaysia, which will save lives and livelihoods and put us as back as a nation on the road to building back economic sustainability,” Sunway Group deputy executive chairman Tan Sri Razman M Hashim pointed out. – March 12, 2021
