Sunway signed agreement with technology solutions provider to lower operational costs

ONE of Asia’s most prominent international hotel groups, Sunway Hotels & Resorts entered a new agreement with hospitality technology solutions provider Amadeus.

The agreement aims to deliver a comprehensive technology solution that enables both parties to streamline reservations and loyalty programmes across Sunway’s 11 independent properties in Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam.

This also includes Sunway’s future developments such as a new hotel in Johor, which is scheduled to launch in 2021.

As part of the three-year agreement, the hotel group will implement Amadeus’ iHotelier central reservation system, guest management solutions and website management solutions in various phases.

Collectively, these products will consolidate and organise important guest and operational data as well as provide various insights, as guest acquisition and retention are becoming more crucial.

According to Amadeus research, 76% of senior hospitality industry leaders globally are planning to target new audiences to make up for impacted revenue from their usual business mix.

“By implementing Amadeus’ solutions in our business, we can ultimately lower our overall operational costs,” Sunway Group senior managing director for chairman’s office Tan Kia Like said in a press release on Aug 31, 2020.

In its second quarter ended June 30, 2020 (2Q20), Sunway Bhd recorded an almost halved revenue of RM556.6 mil against last year’s RM1.07 bil and a net loss of -RM6.7 mil versus 2Q19’s earnings of RM246.4 mil.

As of 1.21pm today, Sunway Bhd’s share price dropped 0.71% to RM1.39 with a market capitalisation of RM6.86 bil. – Sept 5, 2020.
