Super League: JDT confirms rumours about former MU striker Falcao

FORMER Manchester United (MU) star Radamel Falcao and current Colombian international football player will likely join Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT), according to a report from Spanish newspaper Marca.

“JDT, owned by Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, wants to sign Falcao for two seasons, and he will be an ambassador for the club and the city,” Marca reported.

Falcao may join as an ambassador for the club and state upon his retirement from football.

The club’s owner, Crown Prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, will have the final say, according to JDT manager and head coach Esteban Solari.

The 37-year-old whose contract with La Liga club Rayo Vallecano will expire is reportedly planning to sign a two-year contract with JDT during the second M-League transfer window, which starts from July 5 to Aug 1.

Solari was greeted at a press conference after JDT defeated Kuala Lumpur City FC (KL City) 3-0 in their second Super League game that was played at Kuala Lumpur Stadium last night (March 1).

“There is a possibility. It is something that our boss (TMJ) is working on. A club so big as JDT knows that there could be an opportunity, but we are still waiting for more news.

“I cannot say anymore because it depends on our boss, he will decide this,” noted Solari.

Furthermore, should the former MU and Chelsea striker sign for JDT, he would be the second high-profile player to join the reigning Super League champions after Pablo Aimar joined JDT from Benfica in 2013.

JDT could be the 10th team of his glorious career and is widely considered one of the best strikers of his generation and one of the greatest Colombian footballers of all time.

Last week, Falcao’s agent Morris Pagniello uploaded an Instagram photo of the two together with Tunku Ismail (TMJ). The JDT owner reacted with an emoji of a thumbs-up. — March 2, 2023
