Horror shooting at shopping mall rocks peaceful Shah Alam

POLICE have identified a local male suspect in his 30s involved in a shooting at a Setia Alam shopping mall.

The suspect, who has 11 prior criminal and drug-related records, fired four shots at a janitor, injuring his legs and buttocks.

He then fired additional shots before escaping. The suspect later hijacked a Perodua Ativa at gunpoint and forced the driver to take him out of Shah Alam before fleeing.

“Police are actively tracking and working to apprehend the suspect, while the motive for the incident is still under investigation,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under firearm and attempted murder laws, with police actively searching for the suspect. Witnesses are urged to provide information to assist in the investigation.

Hussein said the incident occurred around 10:50 PM when the Section 6 Police Station received information from the public regarding gunfire at the shopping mall.

A janitor at the shopping mall was shot four times while storing cleaning equipment on Level P1, sustaining injuries to his legs and buttocks.

Despite being wounded, he managed to escape into the mall for help. The suspect then fled to Level P2, where he fired additional shots at a stairwell window and a sliding door before escaping.

“Investigations found that the victim, a janitor at the mall, was storing cleaning equipment on Level P1 of the building when the suspect suddenly fired four shots, hitting his legs and buttocks,” police said. —Feb 9, 2025
