WE HAVE all seen or experienced it – cop cars or outriders flagging motorist to slow down and make way for a vehicle belonging to a VIP (very important person).
This is surely dangerous for both the police officers and motorists who are forced to hit their brakes at the sudden.
A slightly less than a minute long video shared on X by BFM News (@NewsBFM) underlines precisely the perils involved.
The short clip shows a convoy weaving its way through traffic in a heavy downpour. A dashcam on a stalled car shows just exactly what happens next as the sweeper car slams into it.
A security car escorting an unidentified VIP crashed into a nearly stopped vehicle on a highway as the convoy attempted to filter between lanes.
The crash caused the driver to scream, a child to cry, and severe damage to the car’s rear quarter panel.

Many commenters demanded to know the identity of the VIP.
With another contending that such antic is nothing new with these convoys being a reflection of the privileges afforded to these so-called VIPs.
One wondered why the hurry when the sense of urgency is rarely reflected in these VIPs work. After all, one commenter reckoned that even for social functions, they make people wait.
One sarcastically remarked that the case be settled with a one-off payment of RM1,500, alluding to the RM1,00 fine for the police officer who assaulted a handicapped e-hailing driver.
Needless to say, many were of the opinion that such convoys be banned from Malaysian roads.
One could not hide his frustration by deeming that these VIPs need to learn to manage their time and not resort to pushing common folk around.
Some said that this privilege needs to be limited to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong/state rulers, the Prime Minister (PM) or perhaps the Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers. Other “insignificant” individuals will just need to deal with traffic like the rest of the rakyat.
The sense of disgust/anger was evident in many of the comments.
The fact there wasn’t even one comment that supported this practice of convoys clearly shows that the rakyat has had enough of such nuisance.
It would be a feather in the cap of the Madani administration if it could put a stop to this practice. But then again, one netizen put it that this would only be wishful thinking.
One comment quite possibly summed up the mood of many – that these convoys which are a menace to road users are no different from the Mat Rempit (illegal motorcycle racers). – Nov 18, 2024
