A DAP MP has slammed an MCA Youth leader for describing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s reshuffled Cabinet as “bloated” following the introduction of several new ministries and ministers.
Earlier today MCA Youth deputy chief Mike Chong Yew Chuan had expressed his disappointment over the splitting of ministries, namely the Communications and Digital Ministry and the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry which he said had “detracted from what the prime minister said when he took office”.
The statement drew the ire of Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan who took to X to hit back at Chong, asking “Why was MCA not disappointed when they were part of a bigger administration?”
The DAP lawmaker further shared a diagram which compared Anwar’s Cabinet to that of his predecessors, including Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Cabinet reshuffle saw the number of ministers in the new administrative line-up expanded from 28 to 31, while the number of deputy ministers was increased from 27 to 29, bringing the total number of unity government administrative members to 60.
In contrast, Muhyiddin, who was prime minister for 17 months from March 2020, had appointed 32 ministers and 38 deputies, while Ismail Sabri, who took over the reins in Aug 2021, had a cabinet of 31 ministers with 38 deputies.
When Mahathir led the Pakatan Harapan government, there were 28 ministers and 26 deputy ministers, while Najib’s last cabinet had 35 ministers who were aided by 33 deputies.
Recall that Chong’s boss, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had served as transport minister under both Muhyiddin and Ismail Sabri, while party vice president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng was the deputy plantation industries and commodities minister in both administrations. – Dec 13, 2023
