MUAR MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman and former Muda president, highlighted the benefits of being an independent MP in Dewan Rakyat, citing peaceful sleep and freedom from compromising his principles.
He reiterated Muda’s role as a “third force,” stating his focus is on representing the people, offering checks and balances, and policy proposals without aligning with PH or PN.
“Though I stand alone, I can sleep peacefully at night, and this is worth more for me. I am not compromising my principles or dignity whenever I meet voters,” he told Malay daily Utusan Malaysia.
“My duty is to ensure the people’s voices are defended, offering checks and balances with policy proposals until the next general election, to ensure the future of the country,” he said.
He also told the Malay daily, Utusan Melayu, that he is clearly in the Opposition bloc, despite not aligning himself with either PH or PN.
Responding to questions about his reduced public activity following his criminal conviction, he clarified it was due to stepping down as party president, not silence.
Saddiq is appealing a High Court sentence for criminal breach of trust and related charges.
On the other hand, he refused to entertain questions on his celibacy at the age of 32.
When asked when he is planning to get married and until when will he stay as a bachelor, Syed Saddiq said he would not answer, adding that this is matter to be decided by fate.
“This is a question that I will not answer. This matter will be decided and fated by God,” the former Muda president replied in an interview published today.
When asked whether he has a girlfriend, Syed Saddiq curtly answered: “This is a personal matter.” —Nov 24, 2024
