Syed Saddiq seeks court intervention over allocation cancellation

MUAR MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and three Muar voters filed a judicial review leave application, seeking to overturn an alleged decision by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government to cancel RM730,300 for his parliamentary constituency.

Syed Saddiq claimed the decision came after MUDA’s withdrawal from the unity government. Despite meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, the allocation allegedly wasn’t channelled.

Syed Saddiq pointed out that opposition MPs supporting Anwar received full allocations. The applicants are represented by law firm Lim Wei Jiet Advocates & Solicitors.

The former MUDA president also seeks an order of certiorari to quash an alleged decision by the two respondents—the premier (who is not named) and the federal government—to cancel the applicant’s access to the myKHAS system that managed an application for RM2 mil allocation for the Muar constituency.

Nevertheless, netizens were not kind to Syed Saddiq, attacking him for his move.

It seems the case against him is going to haunt him for a long time, and as long as it is not cleared or carried out, he will be subjected to criticism regarding the case.

On Nov 9 last year, Syed Saddiq was found guilty of corruption over the misappropriation of funds belonging to Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) — the Youth wing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia — where he had served as its chief four years ago.

High Court Judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid then said the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt on the charges against Syed Saddiq, who is now president of the MUDA party.

“The court has given maximum consideration to all the testimonies before the court as required per law.

“The court finds the prosecution has managed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. Therefore, the accused is found guilty on all four charges,” he said in delivering his judgement before a packed courtroom.

On the X platorm, some asked him whether he knows that allowances to opposition MPs are not a written agreement but are based on who is the PM of the day? They suggest that he go and ask his favourite political figure, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who as PM for 22 years.

Others are saying that he should get his sentencing for the Amanah Saham Berhad and Bersatu cases settled before he starts making noise.

One user said allocations can be given to honest people, suggesting Syed Saddiq is not one.
