Takiyuddin hospitalised over heart ailment, to be discharged soon

EMBATTLED Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan was admitted to hospital last Friday due to heart related complications.

Malaysiakini reported PAS information officer Mohd Shahir Abu Hassan confirming the matter, adding that the Kota Bharu MP underwent surgery at a private medical facility in Kuala Lumpur.

The minister came under heavy criticism from Opposition MPs last week after he announced that the Emergency and its ordinances were revoked on July 21, raising questions whether the matter received Istana Negara’s consent.

While Takiyuddin was coy on the royal assent, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong issued a statement later saying the revocation did not receive the monarch’s signature.

The Agong singled out Takiyuddin and Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun for attempting to mislead Dewan Rakyat, stressing the need for the EO to be debated before His Majesty could provide royal assent.

Following the royal rebuke, it was rumoured that Takiyuddin had offered to resign but was told by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to discuss the matter with Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin. – Aug 2, 2021.
