SOME concerned residents of “excessively-developed” Taman Desa in Kuala Lumpur have trolled their six-term Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, wondering how she could be on their side to oppose the newly unveiled high density Residensi Suria Madani high-rise project which would only contribute to worsening traffic congestion.
This came about as the guest-of-honour and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PMX) heaped praises on developer Mah Sing Group Bhd for undertaking the Madani citizen-friendly project which measures 800 sq ft and priced at RM200,000/unit in Taman Desa yesterday (Aug 30).
“YB, don’t just make a show … buat wayang (putting up an act) la,” berated a commenter to her Facebook post that she has personally submitted the objection letter signed by 16 resident associations around Taman Desa against the Mah Sing project as well as that on upgrading of public facilities in Taman Desa to PMX.
“You attended the event and took pictures together with the developer and PM meaning you are with them … not the opposite site. Where are your guts? Opppss … MCA2.0 continue to con Chinese supporters and even your own constituency supporters … OMG.”
Another more diplomatic commenter suggested that Kok – if her Seputeh office is serious in the matter – takes up an injunction to restrain Mah Sing from developing the land pending further studies on the environment impact, traffic congestion and over-development, among others.
A third commenter dreads how bad the traffic congestion will be in the future “as each unit will have a minimum of two cars regardless if they are considered B40”.
“Look at Teratak Muhibbah 1-2 (affordable flats in the vicinity). Cars parked along narrow roads. Some double park. The low-cost dwelling couldn’t even provide enough parking lots for them,” observed the commenter.
“Even for M40/T20 condos. They don’t provide enough parking lots for all. They have no choice but to park outside. 2,000 units? That’s easily 4,000 cars.”
In fact, Residensi Suria Madani is not all that will occupy the Taman Desa skyline. Adjacent to the project is M Aspira which boasts 1,613 units spread over two towers on the 6.17-acre freehold site, hence justifying the resident associations around Taman Desa to raise five key issues/appeals which they wanted PMX to address:
- Stop high density development projects (commercial and residential) in Taman Desa;
- Instruct the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to set up a special committee to upgrade roads, drainage system, pedestrian footpath and recreational parks in Taman Desa;

- Construct more building blocks and facilities for schools around Taman Desa to accommodate population increase;
- Increase road and public transportation connectivity to Taman Desa; and
- Instruct the Department of Irrigation and Drainage to manage the upkeep of flood retention ponds in Taman Desa and to fulfil the promise of making the ponds’ surrounding as a recreational park. – Aug 30, 2024
