Tebrau MP to stop working with Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman following Muda’s exit from unity govt

TEBRAU MP Jimmy Puah Wee Tse said he has made the decision to stop working with Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman Amira Aisya Abd Aziz.

This is following Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s announcement on Sunday (Sept 10) that his party has dropped out of the unity government after publicly expressing dissatisfaction with the abrupt halt of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial.

“Everyone is aware of the Muda president and Muar MP’s ungrateful move to withdraw his support for the unity government,” Puah was reported as saying by Utusan Malaysia today (Sept 15).

“In reaction to Muda’s decision, Johor Pakatan Harapan (PH) through the state assembly’s chief of balancing force Andrew Chen Kah Eng has decided that Muda will no longer sit with PH’s balancing force bloc.

“As a unity government MP, I have also made the decision to end my cooperation with the Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman in Tebrau and will organise coordination work at the Puteri Wangsa state assembly in the near future.”

The Puteri Wangsa state seat which was won by Muda deputy president Amira Aisya in a six-cornered fight in last year’s Johor state polls is under the Tebrau parliamentary constituency.

Puah added that his decision will not affect his service as a Tebrau MP as Muda does not provide any added value to PH.

“The fact is that whether Muda exists or not, whether it exists or not in Malaysia, Johor, or Tebrau, it has no meaning at all because it adds no value to PH.

“On the other hand, the party had caused a lot of trouble by issuing statement after statement aimed at attacking the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” Puah, who is also the PKR Pulai division chief, added.

He went on to say that Muda should reflect on themselves for winning one parliamentary seat and one state assembly seat with the help of PH machinery, supporters, and voters.

“They will never have a chance to win the Muar parliamentary seat or the Puteri Wangsa state assembly otherwise. The six state elections demonstrated this when they lost their deposits in all 19 seats where they were willing to compete against PH.

“It is not an exaggeration to label Muda as ungrateful,” Puah added.

On Tuesday (Sept 12), Johor PH deputy chairman Aminolhuda Hassan had given Amira Aisya an ultimatum, saying she should either join Amanah or resign from her position as Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman and therefore, vacating the state seat.

Aminolhuda, who is also Sri Gading MP, said that the seat Amanah offered is due to the courtesy Amanah extended to Muda during the Johor state polls which was held last year.

Amira Aisya rejected Aminolhuda’s ultimatum yesterday (Sept 14) to vacate her state assembly seat.

“If he (Aminolhuda) is giving an ultimatum, he must remember the principle on which candidates contest – that the seat, be it Puteri Wangsa or Muar, belongs to the rakyat and not the party,” Amira Aisya was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini yesterday. – Sept 15, 2023
