Telling stories of life, using the wit and humour of Tan Sri VC George

AFTER being under the radar for several years, the famed former Court of Appeal Judge Tan Sri Vadaketh Chacko George, or VC George, is back in the limelight!

This time, he making his presence felt through a new book entitled “Some Stories I Have Told and Some That I Haven’t”.

“It took me two years to complete the book. The stories are about the course of my life, involving incidents and people I have across my life,” he told FocusM.

He added that the book is written in a tongue-in cheek manner, without malice to anyone.

“It’s written to provide amusement to the reader, that could raise a chuckle or two, if not a guffaw,” the 90-year-old George remarked.

Commenting on the book, former Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar called it a “COVID-19 read”.

“George’s book is an ‘almost’ autobiography brought to life through a hundred brief (some very brief) tales of his exploits and experiences. It’s a book written in the inimitable George style with typical “Georgian” humour.

“His closest friends may wish to distance themselves from its contents.”

On that note, former Bar Council president Datuk S Ambiga said George is remarkable man, who lives a remarkable life.

“This book had me smiling (sometimes chuckling) from start to finish. However, it’s not all jokes and laughter by the author, who is famous for his trademark sense of humour and quick wit.

“I could not put this book down, with chapters with titles like ‘Madam Gluxman’s Home for Respectable Ladies’ and ‘The Ode to The Avial’. I promise you, neither will you… This book is just what the doctor ordered,” she stated.

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Secretariat executive director Tan Sri Rebecca Sta Maria said: “This jurist-storyteller shares 100 fun and witty anecdotes, intertwined with historical events, capturing life’s moments with a keen sense of humour.

“For his friends, this is a precious gift as he immortalises the good times shared. For others, this is a read that will leave you with a hearty chuckle. Thoroughly enjoyable. A warm slice of Malaysia.”

The book is available at BookXcess, with the official launch scheduled on Wed (March 17) during a private function attended by the Perak Ruler, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah – March 15, 2021.
