“Temples are premised on the Devil’s religion:” Islamic cleric chide IIUM students

WHILE it seems that the act of several Muslim undergraduates helping to clean up a Hindu temple received praises form many quarters, it also revealed that some are not too pleased with it.

This time around, another Islamic preacher was found making disparaging remarks against Hindus and the undergraduates for “committing heresy”.

In a Facebook page called Ilmu Salaf Dot Com, ustaz Idris Sulaiman shared a 7-minute video, detailing his views on the matter.

According to him, many Muslims are getting confused between practising tolerance among multiracial Malaysia and protecting one’s faith in Islam.

“Recently, several undergraduates from a prestigious local university went all out to clean up a Hindu temple which got inundated by flood waters, citing civic duty. But was it appropriate?

“You see, if God had wanted, the statues in the temple could have protected themselves from the flood waters but they couldn’t. So, our Muslims friends went there to clean up the temples and its idols,” he said.

Idris then claimed that based on Islam, there are only two religions; one is Hezbollah (religion of God) and the other Hezbosyaitan (religion of the Devil).

He then jested that since Muslims were okay cleaning up non-Muslim places of worship, then they should also organise themselves to clean up discos, gambling dens and pigsty.

“And don’t complain it cannot be done because the places are considered haram and unclean. I wish to remind Muslims that syirik (heresy) is the most abominable of all sins and we should stay away from it.

“We should respect and tolerate the non-Muslims but we cannot enter their houses of worship,” Idris stressed.

Why not clean clubs and pigsty too, Muslims?

He also mocked Muslims who commended the undergraduates for cleaning up the Hindu temple, when the same group would disallow their children from patronising clubs and gambling outlets.

“This is where I feel we have lost our bearings. We love peace and should maintain ties with non-Muslims but not at the expense of our faith,” Idris mentioned, at the end of the footage.

Idris was not the only cleric who made an issue out of the matter as on Jan 10, FocusM reported another Islamic preacher, Abdul Halim Abdullah as saying that temples are worse than brothels.

“A temple is far worse than a prostitution den because it is a place of heresy. So heretic that it can be attributed to great evil,” he was reported saying.

On Dec 24, a group of undergraduates from the Islamic University Malaysia in Gombak (IIUM) of various races helped clean up a Hindu temple in Taman Klang Utama which was affected by flood waters, with many heaping laurels on them for their generous deed.  – Jan 13, 2022.
