TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) says it has taken heed of the government’s call to improve the rakyat’s financial literacy through a financial management programme with 300 Persatuan Wanita TNB (Pelitawanis) members.
This is in line with the implementation of the National Strategy for Financial Literacy 2019-2023 announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in July 2019, it said.
In the two-day programme on Jan 28-29, female staff and wives of TNB staff gained valuable exposure to various aspects of financial management from the workshop Surihati Bijak Generasi Terdidik #DemiEsok by TNB in collaboration with the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK).
TNB president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said TNB is committed to supporting efforts to create a community that is capable of making financial decisions.
“The effort to empower women through financial literacy is one approach to achieve this goal, especially in the long run.
“Therefore, TNB is proud to support women in its ecosystem through the programme organised by Pelitawanis,” he said in a statement today (Feb 4).
Meanwhile Pelitawanis TNB president Datin Seri Aidah Abu expressed hope the members could leverage the knowledge gained from the programme.
“Through this programme, we are given financial knowledge so that we can manage our savings and expenses, invest wisely and borrow responsibly, in accordance to our own financial goals and situation, among others, for retirement,” she said. – Feb 4, 2020, Bernama
