Terengganu Polls: T’gganu MB retains Ru Rendang seat, clean sweep for PN

A POLITICAL veteran and a staunch advocate for Terengganu’s growth, caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has rekindled an old flame by contesting the Ru Rendang seat once again.

Against the backdrop of a protracted wait for the state poll results, his decision to return to familiar grounds adds a layer of complexity to an already compelling narrative.

Ahmad’s choice to contest the Ru Rendang seat comes as no surprise to those who have followed his political journey.

Since 2018, Ahmad has been inextricably linked to Ru Rendang with a history of engagement that runs deeper than mere political ambition.

The state of Terengganu, along with several other states has seen its polling centers close their doors after a day of democratic participation.

However, the release of the results has been marked by a surprising and somewhat exasperating slowness, leaving citizens and candidates on tenterhooks.

Amid the anticipation of the poll results, Ahmad’s return to this constituency underscores his belief in the power of local representation and his commitment to personally engaging with the needs and aspirations of his constituents.

As of 9.15pm, Ahmad emerged victorious in the Ru Rendang state constituency, securing a majority of 20,927 votes (85.2%).

In a remarkable electoral feat, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition has achieved an unprecedented clean sweep, securing victories in all 32 constituencies in the Terengganu state polls.

The wave of triumph for the PN was most evident in constituencies across Terengganu, where voters overwhelmingly placed their trust in the coalition’s candidates.

The clean sweep is also indicative of PN’s adept use of technology and social media to engage with voters. The coalition’s digital campaigns, coupled with grassroots mobilisation, resulted in far-reaching and impactful outreach.

PN has registered official wins in Kuala Besut, Alur Limbat, Kota Putera, Bukit Payung, Jertih, Hulu Besut, Pengkalan Berangan, Jabi, Telemung, Permaisuri, Manir, Langkap, Kuala Berang, Batu Rakit, Ajil, Tepuh, Bukit Besi, Buluh Gading and Rantau Abang.

Furthermore, the coalition has also obliterated its opponents in Sura, Seberang Takir, Paka, Bukit Tunggal, Kemasik, Wakaf Mempelam, Kijal, Bandar, Cukai, Ladang, Air Putih and Batu Buruk.

As these results unfold, it is clear that PAS has secured a strong foothold in numerous constituencies across Terengganu. – Aug 12, 2023
