TGV fiasco: Name the VIPs as apology won’t cut it, netizens demand

YESTERDAY, the social media went wild after a Facebook user complained that a Tanjung Golden Village Cinemas (TGV) outlet in Vivacity, Kuching, Sarawak had restarted the movie, The Batman, 45 minutes after the show had started.

User Fazillah Raduan said that he had booked to watch the show at 7.15pm, only for the movie to be restarted some 45 minutes later.

When he queried what had happened, it seems a staff member stated that they had to restart the movie as “some patrons had just arrived”.

He said a staff member had then come in and made an announcement: “We will restart the movie from the beginning. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

Despite being offered a refund, Fazillah queried: “This is not about money, this is about fairness. Are you trying to tell me that I and the rest of the customers are less important than the latecomers?”

The matter went viral on social media, which prompted TGV to issue an apology on Facebook yesterday, claiming the decision to restart the movie was not in compliance with their screening SOP as all the movies are to run as scheduled.

However, netizens were unimpressed with the apology and urged TGV to disclose the names of the “VIP guests” who caused the problems in the first place.

Echoing Neo’s sentiments, user Hamdan Ramli added:

(VVIP must have a lot of money. Why can’t you just book an entire hall for them? What weaklings…)

Netizen CK Yun retorted:

Miscommunication?

Later, Facebook user Faridzuan Adres alleged that the incident was caused by miscommunication as when they were trying to enter the cinema at 7.15pm, staffers told them that there was a problem with the IMAX cinema and the movie screening would be delayed to 7.45pm.

However, several netizens cast aspersions on the explanation given by Faridzuan, with user Nur Atiqah asking why should TGV staffers restart the whole movie.

“Why would they have to restart the whole thing? While other customers already there for 45 mins. (Doesn’t) make sense.”

Netizen Fadzil Hilmi remarked:

(The Communication and Multimedia Ministry and its minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa should follow up on the matter. An apology and refund would not suffice). – March 7, 2022
