That PN’s KKB by-election loss is a “wake-up call” is a pill too bitter to swallow for Bersatu Youth chief

IT seems that the frank reaction by Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan over the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ‘humbling’ defeat in Saturday’s (May 11) Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election has turned into a personal attack by Bersatu Youth head honcho Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal against the former.

The DAP central executive committee member has described Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) victory in KKB as a wake-up call for PN against using divisive politics by exploiting race and religious issues such as vernacular schools, religion, the candidates’ ethnicity and the sentiment of “Malay loss of power” during the latter’s campaign.

“What ‘wake-up call’? You better take a look at the mirror yourself first. This is especially the political corruption that your boss has sown. The 3R (race, religion and royalty) your boss is playing with Chinese voters,” Ahmad Fayhsal hit back.

“You despise people who put on lebai (word used to mock PAS’ obsession with religious issues) garb in Kelantan but you know when to wear songkok and tudung (female headscarf) to get Malay votes! Even MCA (which stayed out of the KKB by-election) is not hypocritical like this 🤭”

Delving further, the Machang MP also chastised DAP vice-chairman and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming for referring to the party’s candidate Pang Sock Tao (who also happened to be his former aide) as “the last shield to stop the Green Wave advancement”.

“He (Nga) even described the KKB by-election as a clash between PH which boasts diversity, openness (secular) and unity against PN which is extremist, old-fashioned (feudal) and conservative,” Ahmad Fayhsal who is also the deputy PN Youth chief pointed out.

This has prompted Syahredzan who is the first term Bangi MP to tease Ahmad Fayhsal as a sore loser by suddenly wanting to be “the gatekeeper of songkok”.

Interestingly, Ahmad Fayhsal found a barrage of brickbats hurled at him by netizens for not being able to accept PN’s KKB by-election loss in a gentlemanly manner.

Some netizens further asked the Kuala Lumpur-born former national unity deputy minister if he has bought a house in his Machang parliamentary constituency (alluding to the statement by DAP’s Pang that she would soon find a home in KKB so that she can be closer to the local folks).

In essence, some ‘cunningly’ told Ahmad Fayhsal not to be unduly concerned about the “wake-up call as this will make it easier for PH to campaign for GE16 (16h General Election).
