The rakyat has had enough of political disputes!

Letter to Editor

RECENT political manoeuvrings clearly show that all our ministers are interested in is to fight for their own survival.

All efforts to manage the raging pandemic and recovery our ailing economy seem to have taken a back seat to personal, greedy needs.

Aloofness among some of the ‘have-it-alls’ does not come as a surprise when they prefer condemning the rakyat’s call for help by raising the white flag.

Their insecurities scream through the insults hurled at those in need for not trying hard enough. Is it fear or arrogance that keeps these like-minded people alienated from the real sufferings among the rakyat?

We have been living in a fragile society even before the pandemic. The mismanagement of resources/wealth among nations around the world and neglecting values of equity.

Earth was considered flat through globalisation and the gap in education, economy and basic rights was still prevalent despite the formation of organisations and councils by able nations who felt obliged to keep things in check without jeopardising their own interests.

Our fundamental right to live must never be at the expense of another person. The Hammurabi Law carries a simple premise of “an eye for an eye” to great lengths meant accountability for one’s actions.

I advise everyone to read the nature of the laws as the central theme was to prevent the strong from oppressing the weak.

Centralised power limits the grounds to address inefficiency or any unjust policies without escaping bureaucracy.

Notwithstanding absolute power corrupts absolutely and the elegance in separation of powers by the estates; judiciary, lawmakers and the executive but this framework seems to be a system bound to be manipulated when an excess of wealth in a few has not been met with mature ideals of humanity.

Are the ‘Kayangan’ people too spoilt to notice our sufferings?

Our officials need to be denied of any political sustenance and be reminded of why they were appointed in the first place.

The lawsuit filed by 10 Gombak voters against their MP Datuk Seri Azmin Ali over alleged breach of fiduciary duty will go on trial in June before the High Court is a great example to reprimand politicians who betrayed voters.

Langkah Sheraton may have been orchestrated by Azmin but his entourage remains free.

Lawyers who are unified by the principle of what is just could perhaps start a nationwide suit against them. This is a lesson on accountability, nothing personal.

Raising the white flag for help is not an act of surrendering. We have stayed resilient long enough and it is courageous for you to be humble enough to call for help and our responsibility to aid when you have the means.

Fasting and starving are two different things in principle. The rakyat can no longer control our hunger and thirst for fairness and competency in our Government.

Where vanity is the fuel for most of the ‘Kayangan’ people who are either celebrities or cosmetic entrepreneurs hiding their vulnerability through an alter ego on social media, we should deny them the pleasure.

By un-following or blocking their profiles, collectively it would send a signal that we are prioritising ourselves and those in need. Their lost sense of ability to ‘influence’ (KOL – stands for key opinion leaders) will hopefully trigger self-introspection but in the event if it fails, you would be helping their sponsors or supporters to relook into their persons of inspiration.

We are all equally frustrated and impacted in different ways by COVID-19. The lack of management foresight by our government distracted by their political survival has only made it worse.

Every Malaysian needs to know that we succeeded in GE-14 and despite the turn of events, we know better now.

Democracy never failed people, it is the quality and spirit of values and principle that must be nurtured within our own society. – July 8, 2021
