The Selangor State Secretariat needs to see some positive changes

PEOPLE frequenting the Selangor State Secretariat (SUK) at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz building in Shah Alam would like to see some positive changes.

A shuttle service is provided for those who park their cars on the steep uphill parking section. They have a tough time walking up to the SUK building. I have seen many senior citizens and women, some carrying briefcases, walking uphill facing difficulties and even panting.

There is a shuttle service to help the people but the vehicle is nowhere to be found when there is a need. There must be an efficient and timely service to pick-up and drop-off visitors who park in the large uphill parking area.

To make the system work efficiently I suggest that a few telephone callboxes, similar to those in the North South Expressway, be installed to alert the driver that there are people waiting at the parking areas who need to use the shuttle service.

The service should be provided continuously from 8-5pm on working days.

Another important suggestion is that there are many very large trees around the SUK building, which are a danger to the public.

Many are too tall and big and sway during strong winds and need to be pruned to a safer level to avoid branches and trees falling during heavy thunderstorms which are more frequent nowadays.

Although they provide some shade and greenery to the surroundings they are a danger during thunderstorms. The uphill car park needs to be upgraded and resurfaced as some parts are in a run-down condition.

The SUK is an important building offering a wide range of government and administrative services for a large number of people who visit it daily for official business.

The Selangor State Assembly building is also nearby. As such it must positively reflect Selangor which is a developed state. Needless to say the facilities and amenities must keep up with Selangor’s image.

While I was in the Menteri Besar’s office on the 21st floor of the SUK building recently to submit a letter I also found a mistake on the wall panel featuring all the Menteri Besar of Selangor from before Merdeka in 1957 to the present.

The mistake was about former Menteri Besar Muhammad Haji Muhd. Taib who headed the Selangor government from 1986-1997, and not as stated on the panel. I hope the mistake will be corrected soon. – May 7, 2025
