“This is character assassination!” decries MP over MACC graft probe

SIMPANG Renggam MP Dr Maszlee Malik has vehemently denied any involvement in corruption and claims that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating him.

He further called it an attempted character assassination in efforts to tarnish his reputation ahead of the Johor state elections.

“I have read the Malaysiakini report regarding allegations of corruption involving me posed by certain parties,” he said.

“I vehemently deny these slanderous allegations and I see this as an attempted character assassination (mala fide) by certain parties against me ahead of the Johor state election and due to my commitment to educational issues.

“I welcome any inquiry as there is nothing to hide.”

According to the former education minister his life and struggle is to fight for education, the fate of the disabled (OKU) and the poor, the welfare of the people of Simpang Renggam and the integrity of the country, he added.

Pakatan Harapan’s Johor menteri besar candidate?

News portal Malaysiakini on Wednesday (Jan 26) reported PKR’s Kota Anggerik assemblyperson Najwan Halimi as saying that he wanted Maszlee to be named Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Johor menteri besar candidate in the upcoming Johor state polls.

According to the former Selangor PKR Youth chief this is consistent with PH strategy during the Melaka polls in November 2021 where it named Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari as the coalition’s chief ministerial candidate.

“Similar to how Harapan named Adly Zahari as the chief ministerial candidate during the Malacca polls, [PH] should also name a menteri besar candidate to inspire confidence among Johor voters.

“I propose that Maszlee be nominated as the menteri besar if PH is given the mandate in the Johor polls,” Najwan said on Twitter. – Jan 31, 2022
