THE sacked former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Tian Chua pleaded that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the party’s president, will forgive him and will take him back into the folds.
He admitted that he broke the rules but insists that Anwar should accept him back as a member.
Last week, Tian Chua was officially sacked from the party, according to PKR disciplinary board chairman Tan Yee Kew. Tan said the latter was sacked for defying the leadership and running as an independent candidate for the Batu parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) on Nov 19.
He was given 14 days to file an appeal, but the former two-term Batu Member of Parliament, who was said to be a strong supporter of Anwar, admitted that he had no reason to “defend himself”.
Following his dismissal, he chastised the party for announcing his expulsion to the media before informing him of his sacking.
In a statement on his Facebook page, the former Batu MP called PKR disciplinary committee chairman Tan Yee Kew’s “unprofessional” act “regrettable and disrespectful”.
“As a PKR activist who had witnessed the birth of the movement and engaged in the struggle continuously for more than two decades, I am certainly sad and disappointed with such a decision,” he commented.
“In my long journey of struggle, I had never once done anything against the principles or political objectives of the Party. My conscience is absolutely clear,” he wrote.
Today, he told FMT that “I contested as an independent and violated the party’s disciplinary rules. It is up to the president whether he will forgive me or not.
“Anwar can use his power as president to pardon me.
“The issue is mercy, not punishment.”
Chua also stated that he has not received the official letter confirming his membership status, which has caused him to postpone filing an official appeal. — Jan 14, 2023
