Timah name change: Halfwit politicians focused on a non-issue, netizens bemoan

YESTERDAY, PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that the Cabinet had decided it will no longer allow manufacturing of products that may create confusion among the public.

Speaking at the party’s youth wing assembly, the Cabinet minister informed that it was particularly the case when it involves race and religion.

Tuan Ibrahim was referring to the recent controversy revolving the whiskey brand “Timah” which riled up several right-wing movements in the country.

However, netizens were aghast over the matter, accusing politicians of making a controversy out of a non-issue.

The whiskey brand had evoked much sentiment after right-wing movements accused its maker, Winepak, of being insensitive to the Malays and Muslims.

PKR MP Rusnah Aluai also joined the foray and castigated the whiskey maker for it, adding those drinking Timah was equivalent of “drinking a Malay woman”.

However, Rusnah apologised for her remarks yesterday saying her speech at the Dewan Rakyat was misconstrued.

After the brouhaha, Winepak announced that it would rebrand and change the name of the whiskey, after consulting its shareholders and board of directors.

Fools serving inept politicians

On that note, user Mohd Iqbal Md Setar cautioned that the vagueness in the Cabinet’s directive could become a problem in the future as any unscrupulous politician can make an issue out of anything.

Netizen Razali Ahmad opined that the abysmal education system had produced fools, who are easily misled by self-serving politicians to protect their own interests.

“Produce more fools. Groom more fools. An education system that produce fools. Give them crumbs, tell them everyday that Heaven ticket booked and without us, Dinosaur will come and attack us and you can plunder as you like.” – Oct 31, 2021.
