TNB, CBP hand out hampers, donations in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri

TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) has distributed 10,260 Raya hampers to its employees who will be on duty on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, an increase from 9,300 hampers given out last year.

President and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said this tradition, practised since 2005, was to show appreciation to the TNB staff who had been scheduled to work during this festive period.

“There are TNB employees who have to be away from and unable to return to their families since the Movement Control Order began, as a large number of our frontliners have to be on stand-by duty at critical locations such as hospitals and power stations,” he said in a statement today.

He described these employees as heroes for ensuring TNB’s operations remained smooth, which would be important during this Aidilfitri period as the country was not yet free from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The hamper presentation was officiated by newly-appointed TNB chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid in a simple ceremony at Kompleks Balai Islam An-Nur TNB at the company’s headquarters, which was also attended by Pelitawanis TNB president Datin Seri Aidah Abu, who is also Amir Hamzah’s wife, as well as Pelitawanis TNB patron Datin Seri Noraini Abdullah, who is also Mahdzir’s wife.

Aidah explained that the higher number of hampers this year was due to the distribution of additional hampers to the staff of TNB’s subsidiary, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), rather than to just TNB’s staff in the peninsula as was done previously.

In a separate statement, Co-opbank Pertama (CBP) said it had handed out donations to more than 600 people in the B40 group, CBP members and asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat) under the CB-Prihatin (Nur Ramadan) programme involving all CBP branches nationwide.

CBP president and CEO Mohd Nor Abd Razak said this programme was an extension of the CB-Prihatin Programme announced on April 8 which was aimed at assisting parties affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We understand the financial difficulties of the B40 and asnaf groups especially during this MCO period, which has hurt their income especially for those earning daily wages,” he said.  – May 15, 2020, Bernama
