TNG Digital enables international tourists to register for TNG e-wallet and spend like a local in Malaysia

TNG Digital Sdn Bhd is enhancing the local economy through tourism by enabling international tourists to register for a TNG e-wallet account and enjoy a fully digital, cashless payment experience across the country.

This enhancement is particularly beneficial for local businesses, including hawkers and small vendors, which traditionally do not accept card payments, helping them tap into tourist spending and grow their business.

Tourists from ASEAN countries can register for TNG e-wallet with their existing foreign mobile numbers and reload their e-wallet balance using their home country-issued credit or debit cards, or through supported global remittance services.

With access to over 2 million merchants nationwide and compatibility with DuitNow QR and part of PayNet’s interoperable network of more than 2.5 million merchant touchpoints, international visitors can now pay for transport, dining, retail, attractions and more seamlessly—just like a local.

This move not only enhances convenience for travellers but also helps spur local economic activity, making it easier for tourists to support businesses both big and small.

It also comes at a perfect time as Malaysia gears up for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, with efforts underway to welcome more international visitors.

By offering a secure and seamless digital payment solution at popular tourist spots and hidden local gems alike, TNG Digital is helping create a more connected and inclusive travel experience across Malaysia.

“As travellers ourselves, we understand how important it is to feel confident and connected when exploring a new place,” said TNG Digital CEO Alan Ni.

“We’ve been supporting Malaysians travelling abroad with offerings like overseas QR payments, Touch ‘n Go e-wallet Visa Card, travel e-SIMs and travel insurance. Now, we’re proud to offer that same seamless digital journey to international tourists visiting Malaysia.

“It’s part of our commitment to financial inclusion—and to helping Malaysia grow as a smart, tourist-friendly destination.”

To make registration easier, verification codes will be sent primarily via WhatsApp. Tourists are encouraged to have WhatsApp installed on their devices prior to registration.

Following this rollout to ASEAN tourists, TNG Digital plans to gradually expand access to

travellers from other regions—including key markets such as China, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and more.

This broader expansion will allow more international visitors to enjoy the ease and familiarity of cashless transactions through TNG e-wallet, enhancing their travel experience while reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a digitally connected, tourists-friendly destination. – May 8, 2025
