THE Kuala Lumpur High Court is set to deliver a key decision tomorrow on whether former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak can serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.
Judge Datuk Alice Loke Yee Ching will rule at 9am on Najib’s judicial review application seeking to enforce an alleged royal addendum order that would allow him to complete his term at home instead of Kajang Prison.
The 72-year-old Najib has been incarcerated since August 23, 2022, serving a reduced six-year sentence and RM50 mil fine for misappropriating RM42 mil from SRC International Sdn Bhd.
If successful, Najib would transfer to house arrest. If rejected, he remains in prison until August 23, 2028. The decision was advanced from January 5 following a request by Najib’s legal team.
Last week, Najib Razak’s lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, stated that if the High Court rules in favour of the former prime minister’s application for house arrest, Najib should be immediately allowed to return home to serve the remainder of his sentence.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Shafee emphasised that the matter concerns Najib’s liberty and there should be no unnecessary delay, even if preparations are needed at his residence.
He added that any potential appeal by the prosecution should not postpone Najib’s release to house arrest. —Dec 21, 2025
