MALAYSIA in on track towards embracing full scale digital transformation as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many businesses to go online.
“With that, MYNIC will help Malaysians to digitally empower themselves and continue with outreach efforts to train aspiring entrepreneurs among rural and disabled communities to set up and transform their businesses from offline to online.
“Through our training programmes, we aim to enable competitive businesses that contribute to Malaysia’s digital economy,” said its chief executive officer Datuk Ts. Hasnul Fadhly Hasan, in a statement.
MYNIC is the official registry for .MY domain names.
Touching on the challenges of this year, Hasnul said that the pandemic and the movement control orders (MCO) have fast-tracked digital adoption among local businesses.
Subsequently, the nation saw a rise in e-commerce, digital payments and other digital processes, as well as accentuated the importance for businesses to go online.
“Some shops were forced to close because they lost customers during the MCO and the affected businesses are predominantly without a digital presence.
“On the other hand, businesses that went online and embraced e-commerce stay afloat and some even expanded their businesses.
“The rapid shift from offline to online purchasing, a trend that is here to stay, will continue to enable more Malaysians to adopt the digital platform,” Hasnul opined.
He added that with the support of the Communication and Multimedia Ministry, MYNIC would continue to support the transition process under the PRIME initiative.
“Our goal is to drive digital adoption among the small and medium enterprises (SME) to strengthen their business position and increase digital competitiveness.
“In relation to that, we have offered 20,000 free .BIZ.MY domains worth RM1.6mil to micro-SMEs to help them transform their businesses digitally,” Hasnul added. – Dec 20, 2020.
